Energy, in physics, is a quantity that can be assigned to every particle, object and system of objects as a consequence of the state of that particle, object or system of objects. The energy is very useful for humans because it is used in our livelihood and day to day living. Energy can also be renewed. This renewable energy is the one which comes from natural resources such as sunlight, rain, wind, tides and geothermal heat. The energy coming from the said resources are “harvested” to produce another form of useful energy such as electricity.

It is really important to be more dependent on this renewable energy rather than depending on the fossil fuels because of many reasons. One of which is the decreasing level of fossil fuels and the continuing environmental pollution which really affects everyone and especially our very own planet.

With the use of this renewable energy, we can be more resourceful, and we can lessen the pollution that continues to kill our people and environment.

The Sources of Renewable Energy

The sources of renewable energy are just there. It only needs to be processed or converted to be transformed into a new and very useful form. The first source of energy that can be renewed is the sunlight or also termed as the solar energy.

Solar Energy

This solar energy, the light and heat coming from the sun is renewed by transforming it into a more useful form. By converting it into electricity, using solar cells or also known as photovoltaic or Pvs, the solar electric power can now be easily used in our homes and other establishments. Solar energy can also be used as Solar Water Heater and Solar Space Heater.

A Renewable Energy From Falling Rain

We can also carry out renewable energy from falling rain. Researchers who study energy harvesting look at everything that can produce energy and find ways to capture that energy. One technique of harvesting energy is converting the mechanical energy from falling raindrops into electricity that can be used to power electronic devices. This is because they are thinking that every raindrop has an impact energy that is highly dependent on the size of the drop. They also identified that a piezoelectric material might be able to capture the energy from raindrops. These materials generate an electrical potential when acted on by an outside physical force- a raindrop, for example. Then, an electrical charge will change the material's shape, which is how many speakers turn electric signals into vibrations we can hear.

Wind Energy as Renewable Energy

Wind is simply defined as an air in motion. It is caused by uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun, the irregularities of the earth's surface, and rotation of the earth. The energy coming from the wind is converted into a useful form of energy like, using wind turbines to make electricity – kinetic energy in the wind converted by wind turbines( today's wind machine ); wind pumps for pumping water or drainage, wind mills for mechanical power and even sails to propel ships.

The Renewable Energy we get from Tides

Another is the tidal power or also known as the tidal energy. This energy is a form of hydropower or power that is derived from the force of moving water, that converts the energy of tides into electricity and other useful forms of power. In fact, tidal power has the potential for future electricity generation, although as of today it is not yet widely used.

Geothermal Energy as Renewable Energy

Geothermal power is extracted from the heat that is stored in the earth. This energy originates from the original form of the planet. Geothermal energy is used since the Paleolithic era for bathing and Ancient Roman times for space heating or heating an enclosed area. The geothermal heat pump is an energy efficient means to extract temperatures from the ground and convert them into a heater, especially on winter or may be used as a heat sink to draw the warmer temperatures away from a home during summer. Studies show that approximately 70 percent of the energy used in the geothermal heat pump system is renewable energy from the ground. The earth’s constant temperature is what makes the geothermal heat pumps one of the most efficient, comfortable, and quiet heating and cooling technologies available nowadays.

The use of renewable energy truly brings much help in the individuals and as a whole, it is the best way to save, to help and to progress.

Excllent overview of the major types of renewable energy. I wonder if the Iceland volcano eruption signifies anything on the geothermal side?
