One of the most common mistakes when we talk about relationships of horse and human is that people tend to underestimate the horse’s capabilities. Whether it’s about their strength, intelligence or spirit, it appears to occur a lot. Oftentimes, it is the intelligence aspect that is taken with most of the human underestimation. I am not really implying that all and every horse is intelligent. However, just like every other animal, or even in any person, they also show to have a difference in intelligence level and others can have a surprisingly high level of intelligence.

If you happen to underestimate this very special aspect of horses then don’t expect to achieve success in any part of your horse training program, and at the same time it may only help in decreasing your respect to your horse, which can probably lead him to disrespect you too and might as well to disregard your space. Yes, it can create a domino effect because if we correlate it to other types and forms of relationship, wherein one thing that is considered as an important ingredient in building a good relationship is lost because it is not paid with proper attention, it tends to end up with more losses in other related areas that you actually bargained for.

Therefore, to avoid any underestimation and to prevent any misconception between you and your horse, it is important that you spend a lot of quality moments with him so you’ll be able to learn exactly and clearly what kind or level of intelligence that your horse holds, and you’ll also get to know what type of personality he has. Being knowledgeable with this, allows you to have a good working relationship with him, and it enables you to know what kind of responses he would make in certain things that you command him to do. And perhaps most importantly, it gives you all your chances to think and apply the best approach that you’ll need to teach him with different things because if you know your horse very well, it provides you with a great opportunity to leg up on horse training.

Moreover, another facet of human and horse relationship that should be taken with great importance is to have respect for your horse way of thinking. This simply means that it is also good to consider the fact that your horse doesn’t think seemingly in the same way like you do, well of course, that’s because he’s not a person, he’s a horse.

Horses do think differently than humans do and probably in several other cases, this might actually bring you surprise by being a fascinating horse asset. Once more, as with the other types of relationship, somebody else can bring something else in the table of which you don’t normally have. Never expect your horse to process immediately the information you want to teach him in much the same way that you do most especially if he is not yet familiar with you, or if he has not recognized you as his master. Making assumptions can only lead to miscommunication in the both of you. At this point, gaining effective communication and respect between each other becomes a hard thing for you and your horse. It is better than you make necessary actions before something becomes an issue.
