Gout is a form of an arthritis that is very common. It often attacks those people who have a very elevated uric acid or the monosodium urate level, and are not being able to excrete uric acid well. When these uric acids abnormally built up in your body, there are consequences that always follow. The said consequences are the following: kidney stones, acute gouty arthritis, and deposits of uric acid or tophi in the skin as well as in other tissues. There are two different kinds of gout – the primary and the secondary gouts. It is distinguished as the primary gout when it occurs alone. On the other hand, gout is secondary when it is accompanied with other medical conditions and even medications. Oftentimes, men who are at the age of 40 years old and above are the most common patients who have gouty arthritis.

You will experience inflammation which will cause very painful, tender, red and swollen joints whenever gout attack happens. The said painful condition is obviously caused by the crystallized uric acid which is being stored and became overloaded in your joints.

Now, you can practice curing your gout at home with a self-medication. There are also tips that are being suggested for you to follow to achieve a better condition. The said tips are as follows:

1.  Never forget to take the medications prescribed by your doctor.

2. You can also use a cane or any similar support to keep your weight off of the inflamed joint whenever you suffer from a hot as well as swollen joint.

3.  Also, keep your swollen joint elevated above your chest as much as possible.

4.  In order to relieve the pain and reduce the inflammation, you may put ice packs because it is the best for doing so.

5. To be able to minimize gout attacks, be sure that you always hydrate yourself.

And because of the modernized treatment for any ailment, there are also available medications for gout. These medicines includes; NSAIDs (Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs) that includes Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Celecoxib, and indomethacin.

Colchicine is also included in the medication which is given in two different ways. First, treat the acute gout attack and second, to prevent recurring attacks. But remember, when you are taking this medication, never forget to tell your doctor if you have a kidney or liver problem so that your doctor would know if the medication fits you or it might give you another problem.
